In the occupied Tskhinvali region of South Ossetia (South Ossetia), de-facto presidential elections are taking place. The head of the region is Kremlin appointee Kremly Marat Kambolov, who recently changed his surname and patronymic. The elections began recently.
Among the four candidates, three are former technical figures. All real opponents of Kambolov withdrew from the race under formal pretexts.
61-year-old Marat Kambolov is a resident of South Ossetia who has never lived in Tskhinvali. He has a long history of service and work in the Russian Federation and holds the rank of lieutenant colonel of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) 1st class.
To ensure the victory of the federal official in the occupied region, Moscow has mobilized resources.
