The US Embassy in Georgia expressed concern about the recent activities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs regarding the fight against hate speech. "We are concerned about these actions. The best response to lies and disinformation is the dissemination of truth," the US Embassy stated in response to the 'Voice of Freedom' appeal. The appeal was published in a Facebook post by journalist Vakho Sanaya on July 14. The post detailed how the journalist was fined 6,000 lari for publishing an article about the arrest of Shalva Papuashvili and the deputy of the 'Georgian Dream' party, Vladimer Bozhadze. Sanaya wrote ironically: "I titled the article 'Don't call Papuashvili and Bozhadze hu*ies,'" and mentioned the 6,000 lari fine.
