Tbilisi is preparing to say goodbye to one of its most famous architectural symbols. The architectural service of the capital announced the dismantling of the well-known 'tubes' in Rike Park — an extraordinary musical theater and exhibition complex designed by the Italian architect Massimiliano Fuksas.
The building, which has been a futuristic symbol of the city for 15 years and never opened its doors to the public, is set to be replaced by a hotel complex covering 14,500 square meters. The new project is planned to be completed by December 25, allowing the city to expand its hospitality infrastructure.
Two giant tubular structures made of steel and transparent glass stood on the left bank of the Mtkvari River, becoming a distinctive landmark of Tbilisi's modern architecture.
