Georgia today celebrates its 35th Independence Day, marking 108 years since the first democratic republic was declared on May 26, 1918. The first democratic republic lasted only two and a half years before Soviet rule was established. Georgia regained its independence in 1991, and since then, the country has celebrated its independence annually on this day. Various cultural and festive events were organized in Tbilisi and other cities across Georgia. The celebrations included flag-raising ceremonies and evening concerts, creating a joyful atmosphere for citizens and visitors alike.
