Three Georgian citizens were detained on suspicion of participating in the terrorist group 'Islamic State' in a special operation conducted in the villages of Omalo, Birkiani, and Jokolo. This is one of the largest counterterrorism operations in the Pankisi Gorge, where two radical terrorist training camps were discovered. The detainees are middle-aged men. Following the arrests, the 'Islamic State' group was disbanded and several weapons caches were found. Counterterrorism center and special operations department of the State Security Service conducted the operation according to court orders. Several people were detained, some of whom were involved in recruitment and financing activities.
