Бывший министр Грузии Ираклий Кобахидзе заявил о «закатной антигосударственной кампании» вокруг темы монастырского комплекса Давид-Гареджи на границе с Азербайджаном и назвал возможные главные дела провокационных авторов. «Кампания, связанная с Гареджи, и другие кампании, которые он продвигает перед временем Советского Союза, имеют только одну цель — это антигосударственные действия, на которые должны быть осуждены», — заявил Кобахидзе журналистам на заседании Парламентской ассамблеи Совета Европы. Бывший министр не назвал тех, кого считает организаторами кампании, но по его словам, политический состав организаторов очень разнообразен. «Кто инициировал эту организованную кампанию, тот политический оппонент и кто использовал её», — сказал Кобахидзе.
