Chinese airline China Eastern Airlines has expressed readiness to increase flight frequency to Georgia amid high demand on the Shanghai-Tbilisi route. This was reported by the Georgian Ministry of Economy.
The issue was discussed at a meeting between Deputy Minister of Economy Tamar Ioseliani and China Eastern Airlines Executive Vice President Wang Qingchao during her working visit to China.
"The airline expressed readiness to increase the frequency of existing flights to Georgia and consider the possibility of adding additional flights," the ministry's message says.
The specific number of additional flights and their launch dates have not yet been announced. According to meeting participants, the Shanghai-Tbilisi route has high load factors and growing demand. According to ministry statistics, passenger traffic on direct flights between Georgia and China increased by 76% in 2025, and by 36% in the first nine months of 2026. These figures refer to all direct air service between the two countries.
The parties also discussed offering the airline's passengers additional tourist routes, rail, and ground transport services in Georgia.
China Eastern opened direct service between Shanghai and Tbilisi on July 15, 2026. At launch, the program provided for three flights per week on wide-body Airbus A330 aircraft.
