The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs has initiated an official investigation regarding the deportation of wrestler Lasha Mikheev from Georgia. The ministry categorically denies any violations in the deportation process and states that the deportation was carried out due to legal grounds. Mikheev was detained at the airport and subsequently deported to Armenia, where he was welcomed by supporters. Mikheev has been residing in Georgia since 2021 under a humanitarian visa. The deportation took place on January 27, 2024, following the expiration of his legal stay. The athlete planned to continue his training in Tbilisi and the surrounding region, but the authorities decided otherwise. The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasizes that from June 29, 2026, Mikheev will no longer be considered a resident.
