Construction has begun on an 11.3-kilometer Batumi-Sarpi highway in Adjara, Georgia. This project, valued at more than $311 million, is aimed at improving the transport flow from the coastal zone. The contractor is the Chinese state company China Railway Tunnel Group, whose Georgian branch has already signed the official contract. The new road will become part of the major E60 highway and the main element of the Middle Corridor between Europe and Asia. The construction is expected to take 48 months and will be financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Georgian government. The new route will bypass the resort towns of Gonio, Kvariati, and Sarpi, significantly improving traffic flow in the Batumi region and boosting tourism.
