Tbilisi authorities have announced that they will not restrict mass tree cutting during the grand renovation of Rustaveli Avenue. The municipal service responsible for the tree cutting has responded to video footage showing many users concerned about the scale of the tree removal. Experts note that none of the healthy trees will be cut down, and the existing trees on Freedom Square were cut down because they had double trunks and could easily fall during storms. Another tree, as reported, was cut down due to disease, and only the upper part of the trunk was removed, which is why the tree appeared to have been cut down twice. The Department of Protection of Trees in Tbilisi emphasizes that the reconstruction project of Rustaveli Avenue includes the restoration of the avenue.
