The Asian Bank for Reconstruction (ABR) has approved a $250 million credit to construct the Tbilisi ring road — a new section of a key highway that will connect the capital city with major transport hubs, facilitating the movement of goods and strengthening Georgia's role as a transit corridor between Europe and Asia. This was announced at a press conference by the bank.

The project involves building a four-lane highway approximately 18.9 km long. It will feature modern infrastructure standards and will connect the East-West highway corridor. The financing from ABR covers two sections: from Tbilisi airport to Lojini, and from Lojini to Rustavi. The project includes not only the main highway but also a network of auxiliary and service roads.

The bank emphasized that the new road will significantly reduce travel time for freight and passenger transport, enhancing regional connectivity and economic development in Georgia.
