Roman Gotsiridze, former head of the National Bank of Georgia, announced massive blackouts in the country due to the operation of mining farms, which are energy-intensive. He shared this information on his Facebook page. According to the economist, the energy system of the country does not withstand the colossal load from crypto operations, which use large amounts of electricity and do not pay for the consumed energy. Gotsiridze noted that mining in Georgia consumes more electricity than the entire Batumi city and warned about the uncontrolled growth of crypto farms in residential areas. "Energy experts are discussing parasitic crypto operations that consume electricity from the country's power grid, but do not pay for the energy — this is a recipe for disaster. What kind of energy expert would be silent or ignore this? He has a responsibility if the function is in the government," he wrote.
