The National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Water Supply of Georgia (GNERC) announced the immediate start of an extraordinary inspection of the electricity market in the country, beginning on the night of July 24. According to the regulator, the inspection aims to verify compliance with the “uninterrupted supply” rule during the recent blackout. A special working group was created within GNERC to provide unannounced access to data and internal information of all regulated energy market participants. The blackout in Georgia occurred around 00:10 local time. Without electricity, one-time outages affected Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, Telavi, Borjomi, Bakuriani, Zugdidi, and other settlements.
