Georgia's population for residents in rural areas has decreased by 37.5% over the last ten years compared to the 2014 census results. According to the 2024 census data published by the National Statistics Service (Sakstat), the total population of the country has increased by 15.7%, or 332.8 thousand people, while the rural population decreased by 7.4%, or 117 thousand people. The census results show that two-thirds of the country's population—62.5%—live in urban areas. The census also recorded the emigration of the Georgian diaspora, with 3,617 families counted, including 200 families of post-war residents. The majority of the population resides in Tusheti, a mountainous highland region near Dagestan.
