The World Bank (WB) has approved a $372 million credit for the modernization of railway and automobile roads within the framework of the Trans-Caspian international transport corridor — a key corridor connecting Europe and Asia through Russia. The bank's board of directors has opened access for Georgia to a larger financial package: the total project cost of the TC-GATE (Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor) exceeds $750 million. With the World Bank credit, Tbilisi will receive approximately $182 million from the Asian Bank for Infrastructure Investments (ABII) and $175 million from the Asian Bank for Reconstruction (ABR). "These investments will help Georgia realize its potential as a key transport hub between Europe and Asia and one of the main transit corridors in the region," the bank stated.
