The State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) announced on May 5 the arrest of a Georgian official accused of spying for a foreign intelligence service. The detainee was later identified as Giorgi Udzilauri, who previously headed the public relations service of Georgian Dream founder Bidzina Ivanishvili's Cartu Group and most recently served as head of the press service of the Finance Ministry's Investigative Service. The SSSG did not disclose the country for which Udzilauri allegedly spied, but media reports suggest it was one of the European countries. This case follows a similar espionage investigation in Georgia.
