Православные христиане сегодня отмечают Великую, или Страстную пятницу – самый скорбный день церковного календаря.

Этот день – предпоследний и самый строгий в Великом посту. В Страстную пятницу верующие вспоминают крестные страдания и смерть Иисуса Христа – суд, распятие и снятие с креста. Во всем православном мире день проходит в тишине и молитве.

В Грузии Страстная пятница – официальный выходной. Во всех храмах Грузинской православной церкви проходят богослужения, посвященные Страстям Христовым. Традиционно они начинаются в 14:00. Ближе к вечеру совершается один из самых значимых и скорбных обрядов – вынос плащаницы с изображением тела Спасителя. Верующие прикладываются к плащанице, которая остается в центре храма до Пасхального воскресения – символ того, что Христос до воскресения находился во гробе.

В этот день в церквях не звучат колокола, не совершается литургия ни в одной христианской конфессии. Это единственный день в году, когда богослужение совершается без евхаристии.

Суббота последний день Великого поста и канун Светлого Христова Воскресения. Пасху православные христиане отпразднуют в ночь с субботы на воскресенье, 12 апреля.

Orthodox Christians today observe Great Friday, or Passion Friday, the most sorrowful day of the church calendar.

This day is the penultimate and strictest day of Great Lent. On Passion Friday, believers commemorate the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ — the trial, crucifixion, and removal from the cross. Throughout the Orthodox world, the day passes in silence and prayer.

In Georgia, Passion Friday is an official public holiday. Services dedicated to the Passion of Christ are held in all churches of the Georgian Orthodox Church. Traditionally, they begin at 14:00. Towards evening, one of the most significant and sorrowful rituals takes place — the carrying out of the shroud depicting the body of the Savior. Believers venerate the shroud, which remains in the center of the church until Easter Sunday — a symbol that Christ remained in the tomb until the resurrection.

On this day, church bells do not ring, and no liturgy is performed in any Christian confession. This is the only day of the year when worship is conducted without the Eucharist.

Saturday is the last day of Great Lent and the eve of the Bright Resurrection of Christ. Orthodox Christians will celebrate Easter on the night from Saturday to Sunday, April 12.
